Land Acknowledgement
ITBICanada acknowledges that Indigenous peoples are the traditional guardians of this land that was stolen from under them that we have come to call Canada.
We acknowledge that this land is everywhere unceded and that we have a duty to build a relationship with the land upon which we live and work, and to prioritize initiatives that support reconciliation with local indigenous communities.
We acknowledge the keepers of traditional indigenous knowledge in every community are worthy of honour, consideration and respect.
We acknowledge that Indigenous women and girls are 12 times more likely to be murdered or to go missing than members of any other demographic group in Canada. Although Indigenous women and girls represent 4% of the Canadian population, the murder statistics represent 24% of the murders nationwide.
